It may look like a clean slate, but it’s the incoming traffic just above the horizon line that’s widening eyes and setting my little duck-legs to paddlin’.
March: Heading to Munich for the jewellery-obsessive’s most favoured/feared hang, Munich Jewellery Week. No, I’m not in the IHM’s one and only Schmuck exhibition this year (but great Aussies artists are) though I am in a show at IHM’s own Galerie Handwerk. See you there?
Also March: If not in Munich, how about Birmingham? I’m catching friends, jewellery moguls and students at BCU’s SoJ for a talk about my practice in mid-March. We’re gonna talk Banner and Badge, if that suits y’all? I’ll be sweeping around to London after that so if you wanna say g’day..?
April/May: Rockingham Arts Centre – it’s official, I’m coming up soon on their program. Right now I’m working on new installation equipment to show another side of the Banner and Badge exhibition (literally the back side of a work that faced wall last time – I’ve been told that this alone is worth a viewing) down in Rockingham in late April/May. There will be works not seen before in Australia. There will be an artist talk. There will be a relaxed Saturday afternoon opening. There will be a (cheap!) workshop opportunity.
May: Thanks to the craft goddess, teacher and scholar Mel Young, I will be involved in a big group show at Atta Gallery in Bangkok. I wish I could go back and hang out in the jewellery district again like I managed for an arvo last year, but not all dreams can be answered inside a single calendar year, so we must press on because I’m going to…
September: South Korea! IOTA is poised to make a mini-takeover of Cheongju, alongside actually invited craft country Thailand (see, I’m getting closer to you again, Thailand), with several IOTA alumni heading to the beautiful Old Tobacco Factory premises for this year’s Cheongju International Craft Biennial. I cannot wait to go back – I went in 2011 – as I’ve been reliably informed that the impossible has happened, it’s got bigger, and better.
More details on all this and more, when invites come to hand.
