SOS earrings
2023
Made for the Radical Jewelry Makeover project, coordinated by Susie Ganch and Kathleen Kennedy for Ethical Metalsmiths' 'innovative community mining project.'
A pair of long rectangular earrings made from small rectangle segments laid in a single row. The rectangles are in two colours; bronze and silver. These are made from recycled jewellery – links from a larger chain - so have evidence from their unfolding. They are plated steel; plating metal unknown. The metal segments are joined with different colours of small, welded chain links, made from recycled chain. Their inside material is unknown, but they are steel and gold in appearance.
Either side of each rectangle is held by blackened steel chain lengths, that extend beyond the final rectangles. They are attached to the ear with long-tailed titanium hooks, made by the artist.
Recycled plated mild steel, recycled non-precious chain, recycled steel chain, titanium ear hooks
